Who here has read the book? What did you think of it? I loved it. It's actually my favorite book of all time; mostly because Frollo is ME. I swear, he is exactly like me. So much so that it's frightening. Anyone else LOVE this book?

This book (along with Les Miserables) is my favorite novel! "The Little Shoe" is one of the saddest chapters I've ever read. (When La Esmeralda is briefly reunited with her mother). Mon Dieu, it's sad.

I have read this book 3 times, and reading it the fourth time right now. I love it. I agree about the little shoe, it hurts to read it

The chapter that I think is saddest is the "Abandon All Hope, Ye Who Enter Here" chapter. That literally DID hurt to read. I had to slam the book shut after every line just to pull myself together.

That was a sad chapter, too. I hated reading the description of Quasi seeing Frollo laugh while watching my Esmy die

I had to slam the book shut after every line just to pull myself together. Yeah, I know that feeling! It took me about three hours to shake off the haunting sadness I felt right after finishing the book. I swear, recovering from Hugo's novels takes a lot of energy. (Les Mis took about 2 days).

I got that feeling with Hunchback for days, but not Les Mis...

I read the book last year and it was amazing. I'm sad to say I haven't read it since, so I'm not exactly precise on any of my rememberings. :\

I'm in the process of reading it. I love it thus far. Victor Hugo is a great storyteller.

He certainly is. He can be a bit wordy at times with the descriptions, but when it comes to characterization, dialogue, and plot, he's a genius.

I've read it twice- both times I cried quite a bit at the end, especially the whole scene when they drag Esme from her mother. Darn that's sad. But I like it that way, it was so powerful. I love the scene between Frollo and Esme. And Pheobus is.... something I can't say, because we're not supposed to curse.

He certainly is. He can be a bit wordy at times with the descriptions, but when it comes to characterization, dialogue, and plot, he's a genius. Hugo's my favorite author! He frequently goes off on tangents about the history and setting of the time period, but it adds to the overall essense of the story. (Even though trying to get through those parts is difficult). And since all of his stories that we read are translations, the poetic flow of the original French is lost, which makes the writing more choppy. @ Erised: Yeah, the part when La Esmeralda is dragged away from her mother... Holy God! It's so real and just... And, yes, Phoebs is a horrible guy. I deteste him.

I'm currently in the middle of reading it (at the uprising of the riff-raff against the Notre Dame? Somewhere around there...), but I've had to put it down for schoolwork and whatnot. I'm really eager to get back to it because it's an incredible story.

Wow. I tried to read it when I was 13 and couldn't get past page 12!!!! Of course, I read it later and fell in love with it. I think it was just Hugo's descriptions that I couldn't get through before. I just didn't care what that hall looked like...

I think I was thirteen when I first read it, it was 7th grade. Actually, our teacher just told us what pages to skip when there were long descriptions, hehe. But I really loved it then, and so I used it in a report in 10th grade and got to reread it, along with Les Miserables.

I'm reading this book. OMG! Since it has been in my U library in 2004, it was borrowed just once in 2006. And I borrow it in 2007!! It's still looking new and gorgeous!! Even though I am foreigner who's interested in this book (it's because the disney movie and Notre Dame de Paris), I'll try to read it through the end. It's wonderful to read the most valuable novel of the century. However, I don't really understand that why someone doesn't like the disney movie and its sequel. I think this movie can give y'all a lot of moral. Well, I'm gonna tell you that I love Quasimodo so much, and little bit dislike Phoebus, both in movie and book. Also I think Frollo's character is really interesting in both movie and novel. Hehe, I really love Daniel's voice from Notre Dame de Paris too. His voice is really unique and powerful. OMG! And I really want DVD of this movie and novel in English Version too, I cannot find them easily now in my country so I don't know how to get them. That sounds sad though, hehe.
Well, Nice to talk to you guys in this forum. So we can share the same interesting topic together!! I Love QUASIMODO!!!!!!!!!!
